Behavior Management
Behaviour management refers to the process of eliminating undesirable behaviours and teaching correct behaviours.
The best behaviour management plan will take a holistic approach, which means we will consider not only the dog and a particular misbehaviour, but the totality of the dog's living situation, including its:
Relationship to its owner or owners, as well as other household members
Physical condition and health
Genetic temperament and drives
Talents and natural abilities
Living environment and prior experiences
So if a client has presented us with a problem dog, after we are completed initial interview of the client and evaluation of the dog, we can proceed to designing the treatment plane.
We will have a written plane of action that we can share with the client.
Treatment programs often use a "tough love" approach that's effective with wide range of behaviour problems. This type of program is also referred to as the "nothing in life is free"
The dog soon learns that privileges are earned -there's no more free ride. This approach ensures that the dog knows that the owner(s) are alphas and it definitely not.
